On January 2009, Joey Dog Jackson, Barry Wehr, and Joie Jodrey decided that our Post needed and American Legion Rider Association, flyers were made up and posted at the club and throughout Huntington area. We had a meeting in March 2009 to see if there was an interest, we had 7 people interested. In April we had our first meeting and Officers were elected.
Our membership is growing quickly we now have 20 members with more getting interested everyday. We welcome riders from other American Legion Post. If you are interested in riding for a good cause, there is no need to change post; unless you want to. We will welcome you with open arms and will gladly share the road with you. We protect those that protect us
I boldly choose to stand peacefully holding my Flag, facing with respect and honor,
the flag draped coffin before me!
When necessary I become a shield for the family of a fallen Hero
while turning my back on the vilest of humanity!
They're not worthy of anything more.
Who am I?
I AM AN AMERICAN LEGION RIDER.

Today over 425 American Legion Riders programs, organized by chapters, districts, or departments, support Americanism and Children and Youth programs in virtually every state in the nation, and more are organizing each month. One of the fastest-growing and most highly visible of the many programs offered by The American Legion, The American Legion Riders are a very diverse group, and so are the programs that they support. What do American Legion Riders do? The activities are far too many to mention in this space, but here are a few examples:
American Legion
Riders chapters and districts, nationally, have become some of the most generous donors for the American Legacy Scholarship Fund, raising as much as $5,000 or more in a single event.
Legion Riders participate in the annual POW/MIA Rally held each Memorial weekend in Washington D.C. known as "Rolling Thunder".
Legion Riders sponsor or participate in local and national charity events in support of the sponsoring American Legion Post.
Legion Riders ride to raise money for such organizations as local VA Hospitals, Battered Women and Children's Center, Varied Children and Youth programs, a School for Blind Children, Veterans Relief, Needy families an
d many, many others.
Legion Riders founded a national movement called “Patriot Guard” (www.patriotguard.org) that honors and protects the sanctity of military funerals and memorial services.
Legion Riders have formed special motorcycle Honor Guards and ceremonial teams highlighting the special bonds formed in military service and the motorcycling community.
Legion Riders have also begun to teach motorcycle and driver safety in the community and in schools in cooperation with ABATE and other national motorcycling organizations. Remember: American Legion Riders are a very dedicated group of Legion Family members.

Legion Riders Prayer
Almighty God, we give you thanks, for giving us a land of the free that we can enjoy riding through its beauty of trees, valleys, and mountains and rivers. You have blessed us with good health to our bodies, minds, and spirits, so that we can
appreciate your awesome gifts of owning a bike to ride and friends and comrades that can appreciate the same. Hel
p us to help those in need in their lives, so that they too can prosper in all that they are capable of doing and becoming for the glory of God. We ask for your safety and protection as we travel far and near and to unknown places. Make our lives to be good examples as a Legion Rider who cares
about veterans, and our troops who are serving, and Lord be with their families right now. Especially at this time, be with those who are grieving for those who have given the Ultimate Sacrifice for their beloved country. Give each of us the strong
sense of Your presence and Your Guidance in all things. In your name, we pray.
AMEN

UNDER THE LEATHER AND BEHIND THE SHADES
Author Unknown
Under the leather and behind the shades stands a biker. We ride for the sense of freedom it gives us. The encouragement to take the road less traveled in the chance that we may encounter something new. We ride for the friendships we make along the way, as well as, the solitude of the open road. We don't really care what you ride, just that you do.
Under the leather and behind the shades is a beating heart. A heart filled with compassion that on any given day will be riding for those in need. Ask one of us for help, but don't be surprised when all of us show up.
Under the leather and behind the shades stands a proud American. We are as diverse a group of people that you could possibly assemble. We are men, women, tradesmen, doctors, lawyers, retirees, military, civilian and on and on and on. We stand silently with reverence and one voice that, in the silence, can be overwhelming.
Under the leather and behind the shades stands an invited guest to the funeral of a soldier that we most likely have never met. We hold the flag of our nation as a tribute to the greatest sacrifice anyone can make. Out of respect for the fallen, we travel to stand firm for a family, a community and a nation to lean on.
Under the leather and behind the shades stands a biker with sons, daughters, brothers and sisters of our own. Beneath the rough exterior we tremble and weep at your loss. You may not see that, for we are there to support you. That’s why we stand so silently under the leather and behind the shades.
